You must have a current calendar to know which day Easter falls on each year. Easter celebrates Jesus Christ’s resurrection, making it the most significant of all Christian holy days. However, today the meaning of the holiday is obscured by painted eggs and bunnies. Easter can fall anytime between March 22 and April 25 since is occurs the first Sunday after the full moon. Easter is also linked to the Jewish Passover in symbolism and it’s place in the calendar.
What’s with Rabbits and eggs and Easter? Well the rabbit is a well know sexual sign of fertility. Religions connected with Babel associate the rabbit with periodicity, both human and lunar. The Mother Goddess Semiramis (Easter) is associated with the moon. Therefore, the Easter bunny symbolizes the Mother Goddess and is associated with annual Spring time fertility rituals worshiping the Mother Goddess.
Colored Easter eggs are a part of the events too that came from the egg which was a hallowed symbol among the Babylonians. The held that a marvelous size egg fell from heaven into the Euphrates River from which the Goddess Semiramis was hatched.
It makes you wonder how many of us truly think about the exact meaning of this holiday other than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It has become another retail holiday and very retail oriented. On the other hand, it is a time for families to join and celebrate the day.
Kids love Easter for the gifts, candy and most of all the egg hunting which could take on a life of it’s own. Family member that are separated by geography often times send Easter baskets to their relatives. Grandparents send Easter bunnies and eggs gift box for Kids to grandchildren. Daughter and sons send Family Easter Baskets to parents and siblings far away. These Easter gifts contain candy, plastic eggs filled with goodies, cheese, crackers, brunch items and more.
